DreamWorks Real Steel Movie Giveaway



 

This film opens tomorrow, October 7th, which is my bithday.  I am hoping my husband will get a baby-sitter and take me to see it.  We have been huge Hugh Jackman fans from the beginning!!!
A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

“Real Steel” is directed by Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum” franchise and “Date Night”). 

“Real Steel” is an action drama about a former boxer (Hugh Jackman) who, against all odds, gets one last shot at a comeback when he teams up with his estranged son (Dakota Goyo) to build and train the perfect contender for the new high-tech sport of robot boxing.

Do your kids love science? If so, they should enter this year's science challenge


National Science and Engineering Competition
for Third to Sixth Graders, funded by The National Science Foundation

  Starting October 1st, kid scientists all over the country will be inventing new kinds of packaging, space food, and toys and games for animals. It’s all part of the Kids’ Science Challenge - the premiere elementary school science competition in the US. Created by Jim Metzner and funded by a grant from The National Science Foundation, the KSC in its 4th year. The Kids’ Science Challenge (KSC) is a free, nationwide science competition for students in grades 3 through 6.  Each year the KSC selects 3 science topics and a group of expert scientists and engineers.  Students are asked to propose an original idea or experiment that relates to one of these topics. The winning student in each category will then have the opportunity to meet and work with the respective scientist, in addition to winning great prizes.


Jim Metzner is the award-winning radio producer of Pulse of the Planet, an informative daily sound portrait of Planet Earth, which recently aired its 5,000th broadcast.  “We’re investing in the future of our country by turning kids on to science, demonstrating that it’s meaningful and fun,“ says Metzner. “We’re empowering kids to see their ideas come alive through the real magic of science and engineering.” Over 3,000 kids have entered the Kids’ Science Challenge to date.

 Participating scientists and challenges in the Kids’ Science Challenge include:

Zero Waste -  Can you invent a package that never ends up in a landfill?  Zero Waste is about using the right materials to make the package, and then reusing or recycling the package once it’s done its job.  The grand-prize winning student will work with an environmental engineer at New York’s Design and Source or at Green Mountain Coffee in Waterbury, VT, on an idea how to package food, toys or other stuff in a way that doesn’t harm our world or use up limited resources. 

Animal Smarts Can you design a toy, game or experiment that enhances the life of a pet or zoo animal and demonstrates its particular intelligence? Animals show their smarts in many ways. They communicate, play, plan and problem-solve. Find out how much animals know and how you might help to keep their minds and bodies busy.  The grand-prize winning student will visit either the Oregon Zoo in Portland, OR, or Duke University’s Canine Cognition Center, in Durham, NC.

Meals on Mars Can you come up with a new way to preserve, cook, deliver or sustainably produce food in flight or on Mars? To prepare for space travel, food scientists must think about how to prepare and preserve food, how astronauts will eat in zero gravity, and how they’ll dispose of food and human waste. The grand-prize winner will come up with a new way to preserve, cook, deliver or sustainably produce food in flight or on Mars and will get to work with an Advanced Food Technology scientist at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX and a food safety expert at the University of Houston. 

 Third to sixth graders will be able to enter the competition from October 1, 2011 to February 29, 2012.  Kids, parents and educators are given the opportunity to learn more about these topics while visiting www.kidsciencechallenge.com. There are a wide variety of online tools for writing a winning entry, hands-on activities, games, lesson plans and videos. Students can enter by downloading an entry form from the website or they may use the online registration tool, and may enter as individuals or in collaborative teams in a classroom, club, after school or home setting.  The first 1,000 entrants will receive a free science activity kit.   The grand-prize winner in each topic will win the respective trip listed above.  Finalists in all categories will win great prizes too; including scientific toys and equipment from Carolina Biological, Thames and Kosmos, Steve Spangler Toys, Edmund Scientific, Pitsco and others. One lucky winner will also have a week at Rawhide Ranch, a summer horse camp.  Educators will also have the chance to win a fabulous raised bed garden for their school from Naturalyards.

Pay it Forward to City of Hope by Inking it Pink-$1 donation for every signature!!

Grace Potter Puts Pink to Paper
Acclaimed rock artist Grace Potter has already signed on to the Ink It Pink effort. Potter helped kick-off the campaign Saturday, September 24, during her band's concert in New York City's Central Park where she inked pink autographs for fans and encouraged them to do the same.

Zucchero's new album is streaming free this week PLUS GIVEAWAY


Italian superstar Zucchero has officially released his celebrated album Chocabeck in the US (iTunes / Amazon).  It is streaming free this week on Windows Media Guide.The album was co-produced with Don Was (the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan) and Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen), and Bono, Iggy Pop and Roland Orzabal of Tears for Fears all contributed English lyrics. 
Zucchero explained in a recent interview that "chocabeck" is a word his father made up when he was a child.  When Zucchero (born Adelmo Fornaciari) would complain that he was hungry, his father would tell him to wait for the Chocabeck.  "I waited for this 'chocabeck' that I pictured as a giant chocolate cake.  It hasn't arrived yet and I'm still waiting!" he shared with a laugh.

The new campaign and packaging are both slated to appear nationwide in October 2011 and reinforce the company’s purpose-inspired growth strategy of touching and improving consumers’ lives.

Ivory's print and online campaign is equally entertaining, as it offers the same kind of simple and straightforward messages, including  "When Dirt Changes Its Formula So Will We," "Just Add Water," and "Cleanliness Needn't Involve Costliness."  Print ads will appear in national women's and lifestyle publications, as well as select online destinations, beginning in October.
 
In addition to the television, print and online executions, Ivory will begin running a number of out-of-home ads in select cities and engaging fans/followers through the brands Facebook and Twitter channels.

Kidzkapes Review and Giveaway


Do you want to turn your little dude or princess into a superhero?  Well, Kidzkapes can help you do just that.  I am telling you that when my three year old put this on, he started running through my living room with his arm stretched out like a flying superman!  My five year old then took his turn and did the same thing.

The lady that makes these capes, Mari, has so many different materials to choose from for the inside of the cape. Some of my favorites are Daisy, the Four-Wheelin',and of course the one that I picked out!


The system in which to design the cape is simple.  First you pick the fabric that you want for the inside.  Next, you pick the size.  She has two sizes, 2-5, and 5-7.  I have a three year old and I picked the smallest. It is the perfect size for him.  I mentioned that the five year old played in it too.  The cape was a little small for a five year old, so by my opinion definitely get your five year old the biggest size.  I ordered this for my three year old, so no worries for us!!!  After picking the size, you get to pick the inside cape color.  I decided on navy to accent the inner train material.  You can also decide if you want an emblem on the back and what color.  I chose a red star.  Then I decided I wanted his initial and picked his M and selected navy for its color.  We couldn't wait to see it.
We have a lot of fun with this cape.  My crazy husband wants a Pittsburgh Steeler's one. Can you imagine the two of them running around the neighborhood in their Kidzkapes!!  I haven't talked to Mari, but maybe one day she will start making adult ones!!!

Sante Nuts Review


Like most good things, it all started in the kitchen.
Six years ago, Sara Tidhar,founder of Sante Nuts,  found herself in a predicament. She had suddenly become a single mom and realized that to make ends meet, her stay-at-home status had to change. And quick.
So she did what came naturally: She started to cook. She hoped the comfort she felt at the stove would help her think of a way to continue putting food on the table. But it was her son who came up with the solution: “Mom, you should sell those nuts you make for us.”
 Sara had been making roasted nuts for her kids since they were little. She felt good about giving them a healthy snack, and the kids were crazy about them.
She’d learned her secret roasting technique from her grandmother, who’d made nuts in her tiny kitchen as a special treat for Sara and her cousins. Sara’s love of good seasonings had been passed down from her grandfather, who traveled the globe at the turn of the century as a spice trader. To Sara, it seemed right that her new profession would honor her connection to family.
She started out selling mostly to local cafés in Silicon Valley, and it turned out that people loved the nuts as much as her kids did. Making nuts quickly turned into a 24-hour-a-day endeavor. In fact, she slept by the oven most nights. It wasn’t long before a major national grocery retailer took notice. The next thing she knew, Sara was standing in front of her kitchen stove, holding orders for thousands of cases of nuts!

My family and I got to sample all four varieties.  Although all of them were tasty, our favorite was the candied pecans. The candied walnuts and the roasted salted almonds came in at a close second.  We did enjoy the garlic almonds, but we are not a fan of spicy, and these did have a bit of a kick.  So if you are like us and do not like spicy, I suggest going with the other three!!   I should make not that they say that these could be snacked on or even put on a salad, but we scarfed them down without even thinking of a lettuce leaf!!!

The Corner Stork Baby Gifts and More Review

A bunch of Atlanta mommies(the inventors of Corner Stork Baby Gifts) seemed to get an invitation to a baby shower or birthday party every week. With their busy family schedules, they found it more convenient to skip the mall and shop online. But as great as it was to shop for gifts online at home, they often found themselves frustrated. The selection on the baby gift sites they visited was, well, underwhelming. Where was all the special stuff? Where were the adorable and unique gifts you see in baby boutiques.

They finally realized that, if they wanted the warmth and boutique-style selection of a corner store, plus the handiness of an online store, they simply needed to create it themselves, designing a online experience gift givers appreciate, with an eye toward gifts moms (and dads!) themselves would love to get. And here we are.

They carefully choose the best of newborn toys and room decor, personalized gifts and clothing, sibling gifts and first-birthday gifts, searching out the best vendors from around the world.

I looked through this site and there are a ton of cute an unique baby items.  I had a hard time deciding which item to get.  I finally chose this adorable item.

  •  Most snuggle sacks that I have seen are solid, in fact I don't think I have every saw one that is this fancy and actually looks like an outfit versus sleepwear.  It is made of nice and warm material and the little hat just makes it absolutely adorable.  I am giving this to a little baby girl that is going to be born next month.  I am going to pair it with a little pink long sleeved onesie to give it that extra special touch.  I can't wait to see her in it!!!
