Redbox New Daily DVD Rental Price

Redbox is making an announcement about its prices today, and they wanted to make sure that you heard it from them first.

"Starting on Monday, October 31, the daily rental charge for DVDs will change to $1.20 a day.* The price change is due to rising operating expenses, including new increases in debit card fees. Daily rental charges for Blu-ray™ Discs and video games won't change.** Additional-day charges for DVDs rented before 10/31 won't be affected, either.

In order to make the transition easier, Redbox will discount the first day of all online DVD rentals to $1.00 from 10/31 through 11/30. Additional rental days will be $1.20.***

Land O' Frost helps celebrate National Sandwich Day By Offering Select People Free Lunchmeat

It may NOT be a holiday that you consciously celebrate on November 3^rd, but if you’re like more than half of Americans, you sure have reason to get excited about National Sandwich Day! A recent national survey from Land O’Frost (found that more than half (51%) eat sandwiches for lunch the majority of the time.

Back in the 1700’s, John Montagu, the Earl of Sandwich in Britain created the ever-popular meal between bread as a way to consume his lunch using just one hand while he was on a 24-hour gambling binge (holding his cards in the other!) The date, November 3, marks John Montagu’s birthday, and in his honor, has been forever declared National Sandwich Day. Those of us who are big sandwich fans might even call them by the familiar nickname of Sammy (or Sammie). 

To mark their favorite holiday, Land O’Frost is giving all relatives of “Sandwich” (that’s Sammy, Sam, Samuel or Samantha or similar variations) another reason to mark the holiday. In the fun tradition of the nickname, Land O’Frost is giving a free lifetime supply of lunch meat to the first baby named Sam (or some variation) born on Nov. 3^rd (how’s THAT for a birthday present!?) In addition, the company will be offering a free package of lunch meat to each and every person named Sam in the U.S. – and if you’re wondering, that’s an estimated 150,000people (and counting) in the US. Another fun fact, according to the Social Security Association, the name Samuel is 24 on the list of 2010 most popular names, and Samantha ranked 15 among females in 2010.

What is Eczema?

Eczema is a dry, itchy skin rash that worries moms and irritates babies. But despite the alarm, eczema isn’t harmful. In fact, many babies outgrow it.

Atopic eczema is the most common type of eczema that affects infants. While the cause of it’s not fully understood, eczema seems to run in families with a history of allergies and skin disorders.

What are the common triggers?

Environmental factors can trigger eczema, including heat, scratchy fabrics, common house dust, animal dander, or detergents. Sometimes, eczema can be an allergic reaction to baby’s food or milk. It used to be believed that even food in a nursing mother’s diet could trigger eczema. However, a more recent study found that there was no association between breastfeeding and eczema.

How can you tell if it’s eczema?

The first signs are red, scaly, itchy patches that typically appear on baby’s cheeks and forehead, but can also appear just about anywhere. The scaly or thickened dry skin may feel a bit like sandpaper. In some cases, reddened bumps may become filled with fluid.

My oldest boy had baby eczema and I wish I had had this available to me.  His seemed to flare up with heat, and if he scratched it, it would get red and blistery and look awful.  His seemed to always appear in the folds of his arms and the back of his knees.  Poor kid!!  My baby has a much milder case, and I can feel it on his skin, but it doesn't look near as bad as my older boy's did.  We poured a couple of capfuls in his bath and let him splash around.  He loves his bath anyways, so it was nice to just let him have a soothing bath that was also fun!!  We also used the cream, which was really nice.  I used more harsh creams on my other son and felt bad about it.  It is nice to see a more gentler and natural cream available designed just for babies.  To me, this seems a whole lot safer.  Of course, with my first son, I wasn't aware of this product, so I just used something prescription, but I believe this would have done the trick just fine, and again, more safely.
